Did God create the first cell in Darwin's Creation story?

The first cell was itself a product of evolution. Cells evolved from strands of RNA, and the first metabolism appeared before cells evolved. Darwin was speaking metaphorically about "into which life first breathed" probably because he wished to soften the threat that his theory posed to Christians. Darwin was well aware of the huge stir that his theory would create, and that is why he postponed publication for 20 years. It's also why he said almost nothing about the evolution of man in his first book, "The Origin of Species."
