If Jesus had been killed by lethal injection would Christians wear syringes instead of crucifixes?

That would make sense I guess. Wearing a cross in the name of being a Christian makes no sense to me at all. Christians say it's to symbolize that Jesus died for our sins, but it still makes no sense to me, because they say that they love him. If someone beat my mother to death with a hammer then people would think it very odd if I wore a hammer around my neck to remember her by.
